A sneak preview...

The April/May edition of Platinum Page has some fabulous fiction, and poems to make you think...

For those of you with a sweet tooth, we kick off with The Half Made Jelly, and the decisions of a busy mother.

Two poems follow, from different poets, all the way from Spain.

Anyone been to Brooklyn Bridge? Steve Taylor has... and remembers it well!

A bus ride taken on a Bank Holiday, in rhyming form...

The Power of Love shows it's strength in a lovely story from Rob Innis.

A poem of Vultures comes next, but not of the bird variety...

Next up is a story about a man who has a job to finish...

I received my copy yesterday and was delighted to see that one of my poems, The Winds of Winter Blew Their Blast, had been included. It´s always a thrill to see your work published, and even more so in a creative writing magazine as you are conscious that the quality of what you have written has been deemed good enough to be read by your peers. I am certain that Platinum Page will continue to grow and find its foothold in a niche market and more writers discover a magazine where they can be given opoportunities to improve their writing skills. Vivienne has done a a brilliant job in launching the magazine in these difficult times and each issue is better than the last, and I feel very proud to be in at the start of something special. Well done vivienne, you deserve all the praise you have received in this blog site. A huge hug from Spain :-)

Hexham Courant newspaper

I have just finished speaking to a reporter from the Hexham Courant, who is going to do a feature on Platinum Page in next week's edition! The newspaper photographer is coming out tomorrow to 'shoot' me! The feature will not only be in the newspaper, but also on the Hexham Courant web-site, in the local section of Prudhoe.

Fatal Bedtime Drink, a tale of a lost book, a letter, and love. It could be nothing else but a case of 2+2=5...

Number One - Make List, is a fabulous story about a lady who takes charge of everything and relies on lists. A very poignant story.

The Green Door of Time. If you could meet anyone at all in the history of the world, who would you choose? For one man, the choice was easy.

With Intent. A story with a sensational twist at the end. A celebratory cruise is the setting for Maggie and Ian...

William Spring and the Dukes Agent. Let's hear it for the underdog! When the situation seems dire, a little bit of thinking and a lot of hard work, saves the day!

Face the Music and Dance, continuing the serial with Peter. Peter is in hospital when he receives an unexpected visitor, with a shocking proposal.

A visit to the World Trade Centre, comes next, and a rather unfortunate event with a bottle of aftershave...

The magazine ends with three poems, all very different styles, and all very descriptive.

Issue 3, Feb/March

I'm all set to go to the printer's on Friday morning. Pages checked, punctuation checked, covers decided upon. The photograph on the front cover of this issue is part of a walk to the castle in Prudhoe. The photograph on the back cover, is a scene in Flam, Norway.

There are a couple of new writer's in this issue, which is exciting not only for me, but also for them!

Taylor's Travels are true accounts of one man's dream to visit USA. He lands at JFK airport, excited, and with camera in hand, proceeds to take photographs of anything and everything he see's. From yellow cabs to signposts. It's only when the Manhattan skyline comes into sight that he realises he has no film in his camera...

Walking in the Cheviot Hills, A Writer's Dream shows us a different form of what we all dread... a writer's block...

Madame Le Blanc, a postmistress, does a whole lot more than simply stamp letters and weigh parcels. She believes in keeping things in the family... until it's time to move on.

Pet Day at school is about a puppy that was re-homed from a rescue centre. After a tough beginning, he has finally found a loving home, and visits a local school to tell the children about his life.

The Adventures of Molly Poppie and Erin, is written by a grandfather for his grand-daughter. The three little girls climb through a tree trunk and find themselves in a land of cukcoo clouds and lollipop trees.

Digging for Victory, a tale about allotment holders up against a luxury home builder. Disgruntled men, an unexploded bomb, and a slice of Betty's prize winning chocolate sponge are deliciously arranged!

Face the Music and Dance, Platinum Page's very own serial, finds Peter Shakespeare getting his girl, but ends with horrific consequences.

Sprinkled over two pages are poems which have been generously shared with us.

I send an enoormous thank you to all of the contributors, and look forward to getting edition 3 printed.

Influences in writing

I'm working on my first, and rather brilliant, novel, and have based Dinah on myself - unwittingly at first - but now she is becoming more and more like me. She has some of my little 'quirks' one being that she has a tendancy to babble on... another is her obsession with everything being in date/colour/etc order whether its the books on the bookcases or the clothes in her wardrobe or the lotions and potions in the bathroom.

I wonder if other writers base characters on themselves...?

Age!

I've just discovered, one of the contributors to Platinum Page is 72. My youngest writer is 15. For some reason beyond me, I'm quite fascinated by this, though I'm not sure why! I consider myself lucky to have writers from one end of the scale to the other :)

It just shows, you don't have to be a certain age to write. All you need is the passion.

An Email Delight

Wow! I've been sent an email from a lady at the Writers Bureau! This could be interesting, and I'm excited to think that such a very well known company has found out about Platinum Page.

Getting ready...

to go to print! I've decided that by the time I go to print, I'll be thinking of the February edition. February being the month of love, I've decided that the competition in the January edition should be a love story.

Midnight

It's pushing midnight and I've just finished editing the second instalment of Face the Music, written by B. Walker, for Platinum Page.

Originally, I wasn't planning on having any continuing stories in the magazine, but I quickly changed my mind after reading the first chapter.

The story so far... A guy is devastated by the untimely death of his parents, and looses everything. He makes it to University, has a reputation with the girls, and carelessly studies a subject he loathes. His latest conquest turns into his worst nightmare.

I'm looking forward to chapter 3!

The First Platinum Page

The first 'test trade' edition of Platinum Page kicked off with a little bit of magic - Magic Moment, by A.C. Hall, a lovely story about how a simple slip of the tongue can create all sorts of confusion!

Next came Taylor's Travels, an account of when Stephen Taylor finally made it to NYC!
Two peices of 'flash fiction' came next, and then My Final Decision - a story written by me about changing names.

On the next page was a story for young children, called What Can Squirrel Do?

I have been lucky enough to sweet-talk a children's author into answering writing related questions, and the middle pages of the magazine promotes Margaret, and has a page of questions and answers.

Then comes a poetry page, followed by a dreamy story called Falling to Prey.

The Birthday Party came next, a wickedly good tale with a sting in the end!

The next page contains more poetry, and the story after that is called Face the Music and Dance.

The last story, Losing Rebecca, is a heart-tugging story, with an unexpected twist at the end.

And that, is the first edition completed! 20 pages long (excluding covers).
Due to the fantastic response I have had from Spain, the second edition is going to have more pages!

It's all very exciting!

2nd Edition

It's 7.00 am. and the second edition of Platinum Page is coming along nicely. I've been editing stories that have been sent to me all the way from Spain! If I've gone European by this issue, I'll be international by the third, and global by the fourth...

And so, after months of hard work and research, Platinum Page, a new creative writing magazine, has been born!

Although I do admit, that with this being my first venture in publishing, it is a little scarey, a lot of stumbling, and a great deal of discovery!
